We are delighted to celebrate Laurin Jacobson as our nominee for the Tampa JCCs and Federation Women of Distinction recognition. We hope you will join us on December 1 at 7:00PM at Rodeph Sholom in honoring Laurin and all the Women of Distinction. Registration is required through Federation's website.Click here to register.
Laurin has been enriching our community for over 30 years. In the Torah, we are taught that on eight occasions Gd asks of someone their location, and receives an answer of "hineni" or "here". There is a lot of commentary as to why an omniscient Gd would need to ask this question. Our rabbis teach that the question was asked so that the responder could make an affirmation that they were ready to serve. in this interpretation, Hineni ִis “I am ready” or “I am prepared” or, more liberally, “I am present and paying close attention to what is being asked of me".
For over 30 years, Laurin has answered "Hineni". She has been our Sisterhood Co-President, Co-Manager of our gift store, a volunteer in the Mitzvah Corp. office, a core member of the choir, a co-leader of Shabbat services, a teacher at the Sunday school, and a tutor of Hebrew and prayer. In the broader community, she is a member of Hadassah and Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, a Hebrew and music teacher at The Hillel School of Tampa, and assists at Allegro Senior Living community. She has been recognized as a Rodeph Sholom Member of The Year and Volunteer of the Year, and by the Israeli American Council for strengthening the Israeli/American youth communities.
We hope you will join us in acknowledging how special Laurin is to our community. Register here.
RELATED GROUP COMMUNITY MEETING
We have previously shared that we have entered into an agreement with The Related Group to sell a piece of our property, subject to their securing zoning variances for their proposed construction. Related has organized an on-line meeting to share details of the project with our neighbors and the broader community on November 21 at 6:00PM.
This is a meeting for the broader community and not specifically for Rodeph Sholom members. We will have more details for our Rodeph members if Related obtains their needed approvals. Your Congregation's leadership team believes this project is in the best interest of a robust future for Rodeph Sholom and is working hard to protect our interests throughout this exciting opportunity. If you have concerns or questions regarding this proposed project, please feel free to contact Lloyd Stern at president@rsholom.org.
Jeanette Kuvin Oren, a talented Jewish artist, has designed this year's United States Postal Service (USPS) Hanukkah stamp. Did you know that in 2018 we worked with her to provide a new year-round and High Holiday cover for our Torahs? We are delighted that the talent we saw in her has been recognized by the USPS. Read more about her and the Hanukkah stamp here!
