Adult Education

Congregation Rodeph Sholom offers opportunities for members to enrich their knowledge of and connection to Judaism. Study opportunities, Hebrew classes and Torah study are offered throughout the year. Programs are open to all Rodeph members and the Tampa community at large.

WEEKLY STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
 
 
פרשת השבוע PARASHAT HaSHAVUAH
Every Thursday at 11:00 a.m. join Rabbi Hearshen in his office to study the weekly portion.  You can do this in person or you can login online and join us from wherever you are at the time.  We look forward to going deeper and deeper into the portions over the year.
 
Thursdays beginning October 11th at 11:00 a.m.
 
 
תלמוד JUMPING HEAD FIRST INTO THE TALMUD
Every Thursday at noon join Rabbi Hearshen in his office to study Talmud.  You can do this in person or you can login online and join us from wherever you are at the time.  We are currently learning the first tractate, Berachot, using a Hebrew/English edition.  No Hebrew or Aramaic skills are needed for the class.
 
 
Thursdays beginning October 11th at noon.

Share a l’chaim and engage in a lively discussion following Saturday morning services.

EVERYDAY ETHICS 
Throughout the year, Rabbi Hearshen will team with members of Rodeph Sholom and the Tampa community will share their expertise on living ethically, both personally and professionally.
 
 
ביקור חולים (BIKUR CHOLIM)
VISITING THE SICK AND COMFORTING THE BEREAVED ACADEMY
Visiting the sick and comforting the bereaved is not for rabbis.  It is for all Jewish people and it is not easy to do.  For two nights we will learn together about how we can better attend to the needs of those who are suffering in our midst.

KASHRUT 101
If you are interested in learning more about how to keep kosher at any level and/or you are interested in working in our kitchen as a mashgiach, this class will be great for you.

שבת (SHABBAT) UNIVERSITY
Shabbat is the glue that has held the Jewish people together for thousands of years.  In these two classes we will learn about traditional observances together with new and innovative ones to make our connections to Shabbat more meaningful and deeper all at once.

LATIN-JEWISH FILM SERIES
Join Cantor Kornworcel for some exciting movies from Latin America that discuss Judaism around Latin and South America.  The movies are all wonderful and bring so much humor and depth of learning to the table.  There will be snacks during the movie and a brief discussion following them as well.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

HEBREW FOR ADULTS
Join Judy Van Der Stelt on Tuesday nights beginning on October 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. to learn Hebrew.  This class will be an ongoing class in which adults of all levels (including those without any Hebrew experience at all) will be able to learn to read and write Hebrew with great proficiency.
 
Beginners class: Tuesdays beginning October 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.
Intermediate class: Tuesdays beginning October 9, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.
There will be two levels taught.
 

EMBRACING JUDAISM
Are you interested in learning more about your heritage or in becoming Jewish?  This is a great class for you to enroll in.  Join Rabbi Hearshen in his ongoing class that provides a good background in everything "Jewish."
 
Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.

 
ADULT B’NEI MITZVAH CLASS AND TRAINING
If you never had the experience of a meaningful Bar or Bat Mitzvah, this is your opportunity!
 
NEW CLASS BEGINS OCTOBER 10TH
CLASSES WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAYS FROM 6:30 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.
