DOWNTOWN STUDY GROUP
The Downtown Study Group meets the first Thursday of the month from noon to 1 PM through June. The group does a “close reading” of the Torah text, seeking to understand the foundations of ancient Judaism and its development through history. The course is open to all people and the discussion is often lively. The group meets on the 27th floor of the Bank of America Building at the law offices of Trenam Kemker. Future dates for this year are: February 4, March 4, April 1, May 6 and June 3.
LUNCH AND LEARN
Lunch and Learn meets the second Thursday of the month, from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM, through June. The class looks at some lesser-known books of the Bible, such as Esther, Jonah or Kings. The course is open to all people in the community. The class meets at Rodeph Sholom. Future dates for this year are: February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13 and June 10.
60-MINUTE DIET
Large scones and good coffee are served every Shabbat morning at Rodeph Sholom at 8:30 as we review the highlights of the weekly Torah portion. Our conversation is both casual and a serious discussion of Jewish religious thought and practice. The discussion takes place in the rabbi’s office. Dress is very casual.
IN THE BEGINNING
“In the Beginning” is a 21-session introduction to Judaism that meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45. Taught by Rabbi Sack, the course is a broad overview of Jewish practice, thought and history. In the Beginning is a prerequisite for those interested in conversion, but enrollment in the class is no commitment to become Jewish. The course is for everyone who wants to explore or take a refresher class about our tradition.
RODEPH SHOLOM GOES TO ISRAEL
Jerusalem, Eilat, S’derot, S’de Boker and Petra: These are just a few highlights of the Rodeph Sholom trip to Israel in June 2010. The trip will leave June 14 and return on the 23rd. Rabbi Sack and Leni will lead the trip together with a professional Israeli tour guide. Please revisit the website or see the next edition RAAG for the trip itinerary and details.
