Class Activities
- Pre-K/Kindergarten – Biblical Trip to the Zoo – Sunday, October 25th. This is a family interactive program to learn about the bible at the Lowry Park Zoo with fun activities to enjoy and learn.
- 1st and 2nd Grade - MOSI Trip– Sunday, January 31st. An exciting program to learn more about Tu B’Shevat through nature and environmental conservation. The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) will lead students and parents on a nature hike and the group will plant their own tree together.
- 3rd Grade Consecration – Friday, October 2nd. Consecration marks the official first year of Hebrew studies. The third grade students will be honored during Friday Shabbat services. A congregational dinner will follow services.
- 3rd Grade comparative religion program – Sunday, October 25th and Sunday, February 7th. Students in the third grade will visit Schaarai Zedek during the year. They will have a chance to visit the reciprocal synagogue to learn the history and differences of each synagogue.
- 4th Grade “Being a Mensch” – Sunday, February 21st. Students are beginning to explore how their actions affect their community, friends, and family. They will be able to share a part of themselves with the residents at Weinberg Village while they visit, play games, and perform a biblical skit.
- 5th Grade TBJEC program – Sunday, March 7th. The Tampa Bay Jewish Educators jointly host an education program with interactive activities about Israel for all 5th graders in the extended area.
- 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Shabbaton – Friday, January 22nd. Students will help prepare a Shabbat dinner, help lead services, and enjoy dinner followed by songs, games, and fun activities.
- 6th Grade Siddur ceremony - Friday, October 2nd. The sixth grade students will be honored during Friday Shabbat services with a Siddur presentation by their parents. A congregational dinner will follow services.
- 6th Grade Holocaust Museum Field Trip – Sunday, January 24th. The students will visit the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg as part of their Holocaust curriculum. This tour is designed for religious school students.
- 7th Grade Havdalah ceremony – Monday, September 28th. The seventh grade class will usher in the conclusion of Yom Kippur with a candle procession and Havdalah service.
- 7th Grade Mitzvah trips – The class with participate in continuous off-campus learning experiences for the seventh grade students to enhance their understanding of Mitzvah projects.
- 8th & 9th grade trip to Miami - Sunday, January 17th – Monday, January 18th The students will visit the Jewish Museum of Florida, view Jewish art and culture, attend the Jewish film festival, eat at kosher restaurants, and participate in an area-wide social action project.
Class Shabbat Programs
During the fall and spring semesters, our synagogue will be holding family Shabbat services and dinners for each grade of Rodeph Sholom children. I am very excited about these events, as they provide an opportunity for parents to get to know other parents with children the same age and allow our children the chance to socialize with their peers.

FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS
- 1st and 2nd Grade – Lev B’Lev Family Program (Heart to Heart) - Sunday, November 8th A program designed for families to get together and have conversations about “Raising Jewish Children in a non-Jewish world” along with Jewish rituals that will enrich your family life.
- 3rd & 4th Grade Family program – Sunday, January 10th – Ten ways to raise a mensch will be the focus of this program. We will participate in activities together about making good choices using Jewish values. This is part of our about “Raising Jewish Children in a non-Jewish world” series of discussions.
- 5th grade Siddur workshop – Sunday, April 25th Parents and students will meet together to learn about the siddur and design a special keepsake cover. We will explore how we use prayer in our lives and learn about the meaning of different parts of our service. This is part of our “Raising Jewish Children in a non-Jewish world” discussion series.
- 6th & 7th Grade Family Workshops – Sundays – November 22nd These family workshops are designed for parents and students to meet and discuss topics of interest about the meaning of becoming a B’nei Mitzvah, Jewish values, and pre-teen issues.
SCHOOL WIDE & CONGREGATIONAL FAMILY PROGRAMS
Sunday, November 1, 2009 - Holocaust Dedication Program
We will have a special program to dedicate the Holocaust Torah originally from Czechoslovakia that we received which has been safely kept in England until the time it arrived in Tampa. Thanks to the generous donation of Manny and Sally Riba family, we are able to host this Torah at Rodeph Sholom. We have planned wonderful activities and programs for adults and children of the congregation to celebrate this gift.
December 13, 2009 – Chanukah Program
Join in the fun of Chanukah with the entire family. There will be activities for children of all ages followed by Hot Dogs and Latkes sponsored by Men’s Club. Gelt and goodies will conclude the morning.
