Outreach Programs

Caring Commitee
The Caring Committee was created to give comfort and fellowship to the members of our Rodeph Sholom family. The committee visits members in nursing homes to help break the isolation and loneliness often felt by the residents. They also make shiva calls to visit with, and offer comfort to, the family and give each family a kugel and a prayer book. The Caring Committee also sends condolence cards and get-well wishes to those who were hospitalized or bereaved. They take congregants to the hospital for therapy, and visit members in the hospital, as well as shut-ins in the community and those who have debilitating illnesses.

Mitzvah Mania Day
Mitzvah Mania Day is a day when everyone - individuals, couples, children, singles, seniors and families - can make a difference by doing a project for the larger community that helps others. The Social Action Committee of Congregation Rodeph Sholom organizes a variety of mitzvah projects from which to choose. We invite you to participate! We invite you to translate your interests, talents and resources into good deeds for the community.

A mitzvah is a commandment from God. The mitzvot we do on this day are all in the category of “Tikkun Olam,” repairing the world. Our heritage teaches that the world will be repaired one person at a time, requiring each of us to take responsibility to help, to heal, to enhance the community and the space in which we live.

And, while you are helping, you will enjoy the company of other Rodeph Sholom members, having fun and feeling that fantastic sense of satisfaction in knowing that you are making a difference!

Mitzvah Mania Day provides a superb opportunity for connection to community - to Rodeph Sholom and beyond.

Social Action Commitee
As a congregation, we believe that our primary commitment is to perform acts of lovingkindness. We, as Jews, have an obligation to perform these good deeds both within and outside the congregational community, with other Jews worldwide, and outside the Jewish community. At Rodeph Sholom, it is our mission to make a difference in our synagogue and our community by reaching out to help others.

Reaching out to our community is as simple as driving a senior citizen to Shabbat services on a Friday night, or visiting a congregant in the hospital. Rodeph Sholom also reaches out to the community-at-large through our Mitzvah Mania Day. Congregants perform the mitzvah of “Tikkun Olam,” or repairing the world, by helping out at organizations like Ronald McDonald House, The Spring of Tampa Bay, Metropolitan Minsitries, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and more.

We welcome congregants of all ages to participate in our community outreach efforts. If you would like more information about the Social Action Committee, please contact admin@rsholom.org.
